Revised a short story
I don't know what it is
that makes revising fun for me. Maybe it's the way an old idea can be reshaped
into something new. Though with it still holding on to the same themes, tone, and
mood, as the original idea. Transforming into a better version of itself. I love the process of rewriting, reworking.
Becoming almost obsessively driven to find the right way to word things, change
it, restructure it, and then finally having that click. Then the serotonin
in my body gives my brain a gold star, claps me on the back, until the next
time I write and revise, and I start the process all over again.
I used to hate revising.
I naively wanted my stories to be brilliant right off the bat, instead of the
muddled garbage pile I'd already written down. Now I get excited about editing.
I hope this means that this year I'll have improved in my writing skills enough
to be publishable. My ultimate goal. Here's to 2022, and hopefully the start of
my writing career. In the meantime, I'm going to keep picking up old stories,
or half-written ideas, and revise.
