A One-Shot D&D Character
This summer since most of our D&D party are out of town or doing vacations, myself included, the DM decided that it could be fun for each party member to come up with their own one-shots and then the party members in town could participate. So Far there have been three. I mentioned that I ran one at the beginning of summer. Then I was out of town in Texas for my husband work event, and another party member ran a game. He wanted to be next since he and his wife were expecting their baby son soon. He just arrived two days ago! Yesterday, I got to play in another game with my Drow Ranger: Bal-ana and her companion wolf-spider, Whiskers. I chose Bal-ana as a name because I'm watching back through Star Trek Voyager and just love her. I chose to pronounce it differently and give her a nickname so it's not the same, just a fun allusion to the show.
I've never played a ranger before and Wizards of the Coast just upgraded them making them more beefy, so it seemed like a fun character to play.
Whiskers went down to 0 hit points near the end of the game, which freaked me out. Instead of helping one of my party members I had to revive Whiskers with a health potion. I can see why Laura Bailey from Critical Role was so protective of Trinket. All in all I can't wait for the next one-shot.
Here is my very short backstory for Bal-ana and Whiskers.

Bal-ana, or
Ana for short, found herself on the surface of Antea after chasing her wily pet
Whiskers. Whiskers had thought it fun to scamper to the surface and hide in one
of the large trees in the surrounding forest. He giggled, as only spiders can
do, at her as she searched for him. He liked to play hide and seek. It was his
favorite game. Ana, who was supposed to be a well-known spider trainer of her
people, was convinced that Whiskers was cleverer than most spiders and hid on
purpose for more attention. It was like trying to train a two-year-old. Quite
exasperating.
Now she
found herself on the surface of an unknown land, with nothing but her wit, her
bow, and her pet. Instead of going back down into Drow society. Whiskers’ game
had finally given her the excuse she needed to explore the surface world.
She’s and
Whiskers had been exploring Antea now for six months and she was having way
more fun to go home yet.
Ana is a
tall, willowy, Drow-elf. She has long white hair that she wears in a long
braid, which offset her dark gray skin. A long scar on her right cheek from a
feisty Spider she’d been trying to train in the beginning of her career. She
has a trainer’s personality, more bossy than not, and thinks she knows everything
it takes to train an animal.
