Camp Nanowrimo
I singed up to do Camp Nanowrimo this July and am thoroughly exited to use it as a revision heavy incentive. Instead of tracking my words on a new novel, I'm going to be tracking my hours of revision for the full month. I'm already revising You See, What Had Happened Was, but in using the resources and motivation from Camp, I'm going to push myself to do at least two full drafts of my book.
My Hours goal reach day will be six. That means I can break it up and do three hours in the morning, take a break, have lunch, clean, laundry, read, errands, dog, etc, and then come back and work for another three hours. If I feel like I can go on and do an extra few hours then I will.
One thing I like about Nanowrimo is that I know I'm not writing or working alone. Other's are participating like me. It helps keep you going. I find myself getting a little competitive. I want to win. I also want to do this for the satisfaction it give me. There's a driving force forcing you on.
I won in November 2018, writing 50,000 words in a month. It was one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences of my life. I didn't finishing YSWHHW in that time but I got 50,000 words in. YSWHHW is currently 93K. The first draft is done. And thanks to Nanowrimo, I completed the entire novel within five months. I took a nice break afterwards: went to Spain, went to Texas (for my husband work thing), and I worked on MOCHO. Since June I've slowly been revising and thanks to Camp I'm hoping for that external push into motivation, because I'm not going to lose Camp! I'm going to reach my goal and win and get myself another shirt. My Husband encouraged me the whole way last November, and when I won, topping out at 50,700 words, he bought me a shirt that said: Nanowrimo Winner, with a gold trophy cup in the center.
One other thing I love about the Nanowrimo community, is they send you uplifting and motivating emails through-out the month, encouraging you that you can do it. That you have what it takes to be a writer.
So wish me luck in July, guy! Happy Writing!
